Glider Skimming the Salt River Mountain Peaks
Ride along as a high performance glider / sailplane flies just feet above the mountain top rocks while enjoying a fun day out flying. The Salt River Mountains are located on the east side of Afton Wyoming's Star Valley. The glider is a 15 meter (50 foot wingspan) carbon fiber modern glider capable of flying 180 miles per hour and can glide 47 feet forward for every foot dropped. We look for areas of lift where the air is going up faster than the glider is descending so that is how we are able to fly many hundreds of miles and many hours in a day. I hope you enjoy the video! Glider Circling the Grand Teton - Spectacular Views!
Переглядів 8 тис.10 місяців тому
See up close flying around one of the most beautiful mountain peaks in the world - the Tetons in Western Wyoming. This is a high performance glider (no engine) flying around the Grand Teton. Check out how much snow there still was in late June! During this gliding trip we also visited the base of the Tetons on a rain day and the views from down below are almost just as spectacular. It is worth ...
First Time 29+ Years Flying in Mountains I Got Scared

Sorry I didn't have my video camera running the 2 minutes before this video started but I was flying for my life. I was flying my high performance glider (sailplane) in the Salt River Mountains near Afton, Wyoming when I hit an extreme pocket of descending air that made me fly for my life out through a side canyon. Unfortunately the down air was also in the canyon so I didn't know if I would ma...
Glider Landing Beautiful Afton Wyoming

Giving you a pilot's view of landing a high performance glider (sailplane) at the picturesque Afton Wyoming airport. Afton is located near the south end of the beautiful Star Valley with the Salt River Range mountains just a mile to the east. It is a beautiful place to visit and for me and 5 other friends was a fun place to fly for a week in June. Please check out other videos from this trip on...
Glider over Lake Powell in Storm
Переглядів 24 тис.Рік тому
Lake Powell Utah/Arizona is a beautiful but desolate desert landscape of just water and rocks. I flew my high performance glider / sailplane over the lake from north to south on a pretty stormy day and it made for quite the adventure. Landing at Page was not planned but the thunderstorm forced my friend Dan in his glider and me in mine down in strong winds and rain. The people working at Page w...

Utah mountains have some of the best displays of color as the leaves change and this year was not a letdown. Top Gun in the Mountains - Gliders Play Up There Too
Переглядів 20 тис.2 роки тому
Flying through the mountains happens much more than just in the movies. Glider pilots who are crazy/brave enough can play and fly amoung the mountain peaks like what you see in the big screen - just a little bit slower and not hitting 9 . G's. The glider is an ASW27 and the airport I am flying from is Nephi, Utah. This footage was taken just east of Manti, Utah. Thanks as always for watching an...
11 Most Memorable Glider Landings

You can never be quite sure where you are going to end up landing when you fly a glider. That can be both terrifying and thrilling at the same time. With training, glider pilots learn to manage their energy and altitudes so well that they can land just about anywhere safely. Here are a few landings I have made over the years that turned out pretty interesting. I hope you enjoy! Thanks as always...
Gliding Hundreds of Miles Over Nothingness - Full Flight

This is 98% of the entire footage of a 750km record glider flight from Nephi, Utah to Alamo, NV and back to Nephi. As you can see, there is not much out there near Alamo! Pretty scary when you are so far away from home without an engine and only your wits and the weather to help get you back home. The glider is an ASW27 and the airport I am landing at is Nephi, Utah. This was my first flight ba...

Hey Bruno! A great video as usual! Shame about the camera battery! Some awesome scenery over there! Are you still flying? I've noticed a few aviation YT'ers posting less lately. I hope you're well, and hope to see some more videos from you at some point! A long-time viewer from the UK.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeas I’m still flying just not posting many videos. I lost a lot of enthusiasm when I got smacked down by the FAA w few years back. I wish you the best.

What was the big deal? That was standard sailplane air show stuff. Many sailplanes, like his, are fully aerobatic as well. He had clearance to perform over the airfield, and he didn’t do the aerobatics over the spectators. Just because sailplanes don’t have engines, many people make assumptions and misunderstand their safety & capabilities. It’s common to do loops, spins, wing overs, etc.

The FAA is highly politicized shop ran by forced DEI leadership with little to no qualifications. Thanks for making a joke out of a once very professional and needed organization. Why are gliders of all things preyed upon but cities can be burned to the ground with no arrest. Like I said. Total joke.

The Helicopter should yield his right of way. The GLIDER has ATC clearance and is engaged in low level flight. The jackass Helicopter has engine power. Why the helicopter doesn’t hold outside is insane. The helicopter pilot should be fined for this incident.

I wish the FAA was more interested in the drug smuggling that's right in their face but instead with transponders turned off flying into small airports (actually deleted the one I know of because I would rather not suicide myself..) apparently drug smuggling is ok but this is not?

Happened to me too! I flew with Air O'Dell Flight School. I flew a glider in a similar way to you. It was absolutely thrilling seeing what the machine can do. But a was running low on fuel and glided it back to the runway. I was reported to the FAA for this apparent infraction and had my licence suspended for 6 months.

Winching… Yeah, it’s how I learned, here in UK, in open cockpit gliders too. Quite dramatic at first; even more so if you get a cable break in the steepest part of your climb out. As you’re already sitting back in the cockpit, when the cable breaks your mind screams that your ‘going over the top’; at least at first, ’till you get used to it 🤣Anyway, great fun 😎

Yea you live and you learn. I don't think the FAA was being overly strict. Air shows used to be pretty dangerous events to attend. Since the rules and regulations inacted by the FAA there's been very few fatal accidents in air shows. I'm glad you got to keep your license! Happy flying!

That's an example of a high speed approach my friend .. Even a helicopter floats it it's got enough speed.... An real example would be 2 approaches at the same speed ... 1 bleeding airspeed off at 3ft the other at 50ft and compare the touchdown point on the runway..
